Melon Sandbox safe mode

Last checked 2026-10-29 · melon sandbox safe mode

I compared Reddit descriptions of the boot failure screen with the version 36.0 note about a safe-mode popup and the FAQ line that says to use safe mode to rule a file out. That is two community layers, not a help center article. There is no screenshot of the popup on the official site, so I am not pretending the images below are the dialog.

What to do while you are in it

  1. Open the file manager. Safe mode is described as leaving that tool available and turning mods off.
  2. Remove the mod or save you added just before the crash.
  3. Restart the game.
  4. If it crashes again, remove the next most recent file. There is no published log to read.

Official Workshop tutorial still. Safe mode is about files from this ecosystem, not a separate app.

Official site scene. Not a picture of the safe-mode popup, which is not published.
Saves: unknown. Do not assume a restart in safe mode is a wipe, and do not assume it is safe either.

Questions people ask

What is safe mode?

Players on Reddit describe it as the screen you get after a crash on the previous boot. Mods are disabled. The file manager stays available so you can delete the file that broke startup. Version 36.0 added a safe-mode popup, according to the wiki.

How do I exit?

The public advice is: delete or move the problem mod, then restart. I did not find a labeled Exit Safe Mode button in any official document.

Will it delete my saves?

Nobody official has said. The community posts talk about removing mods, not about wiping saves. I will not promise your saves survive.
